ALGER – The President of the Republic, Mr Abdelmadjid Tebboune, reaffirmed his commitment to raising wages in 2027, stressing that the planned increases will be included in the budget for next year.
During his periodic interview with representatives of the national press, broadcast on the national television and radio channels on Saturday night, the President of the Republic reiterated his commitment to the decision on the upgrading of wages, recalling that “the payment of these increases will take place from 2027”, a decision to which he remains committed and attached.
“I am committed to implementing the remaining 53 per cent of wage increases, and I reiterate this commitment,” he said, stating that, if conditions permitted, these increases would be applied in one or two instalments if not.
The President of the Republic, always referring to the social aspect, stressed that purchasing power and the fight against illegal speculation were a priority, with citizens at the heart of development.
Turning to the rise in the prices of certain products, the President of the Republic said that the only factor explaining this phenomenon, which citizens have seen, was “the greed of those who benefit from the situation”, which he described as “parasites”.
He also noted that the unfortunate fires that affected some wilayas in the centre and east of the country last July had contributed to a decline in the availability of certain products. However, this “does not in any way justify an increase in prices in this way”, particularly with regard to the support given to the agricultural sector, whether electricity and water connection or the provision of fertilizers.
Reiterating its categorical rejection of illegal speculation, the President of the Republic revealed that “after the first investigations, the majority of farmers were not at the origin of the price increase”, claiming that these practices constitute “a crime against the people and that the Government will face it”.
The President of the Republic also recalled that Algeria had already experienced such practices in the past, especially during the period of the +Issaba+ (band), before cautioning: “Whoever harms the people harms my person”.
